Book News

The biographical book about Carine Roitfeld by Olivier Zahm will most likely be image-heavy with interesting questions by bloggers. The book comes out fall 2011.

Another book I have been waiting for is the tribute book to Alexander McQueen by Visionaire. The book is named, Visionaire 58 Spirit, A Tribute to Lee Alexander McQueen and it is not cheap, $295 a copy. Why so expensive? Well, the pages are made from seeded paper, embedded with wild flowers that, if planted and properly tended to, will bloomreal flowers. The boxed set, which is limited to 1,500 numbered copies, is also wrapped in a McQueen metalized brocade from the spring/summer 2010 show. Beautiful.

Resort 2011, Alexander McQueen, Prada, Miu Miu

Posted by Marina Milojkovic Jun, 2010 at 12:25 under Collections

Wow, Sarah Burton is a genius. The resort collection is true to the esthetics of McQueen and still it is modern and new. I love it. So beautiful, simple and just, unique. This makes me very excited for the spring collection.

I do not know if it is the styling, or the pieces themselves, but this to me is tacky. Something is just bugging me about this. Perhaps the pattern? Or the fact that I hate socks in open shoes. Not even the bags look ok.

This is even worse. Miu Miu, What is this?

Men’s Fashion Week, Alexander McQueen, Jil Sander

Posted by Marina Milojkovic Jun, 2010 at 10:41 under Collections

It is men’s fashion week in Milan which is probably the best time of year. Beautiful men everywhere, well dressed, and, well, lets just say my love for men’s fashion is almost stronger than my love for women’s fashion.
The house of Alexander McQueen is still alive, thanks to Sarah Burton. Her first collection for the house as the new creative director is beautiful if you ask me. Not many photos are out yet. However, we can see the nice tailoring and the beautiful beige. There is a  basic silhouette, with tailored jackets and baggy trousers. I love this. However, I am not sure where McQueen is? No patterns, nothing really interesting. Well, this is yet to be seen.

There are so many colors with Raf Simons spring 2011 collection for Jil Sander. Still, it is minimalistic. Have we ever seen that before? Simple cuts, minimalistic paired with so many colors your eyes will bleed.
“This isn’t a silhouette-driven collection at all, as a matter of fact. I don’t want to compete with nature; I also don’t want to blend in. What I want is to create a tension, a certain friction or electricity, …” Raf Simons said about the collection and I think these are beautiful words.
The setting was beautiful as well. An estate in the hills with a tremendous garden with a view of the city. The photos are poor and the video will do the collection more justice.

Alexander McQueen Names Sarah Burton Creative Director

Posted by Marina Milojkovic May, 2010 at 8:24 under Designers

Ever since Lee Alexander McQueen died we have been wondering who will take his position. Now we know. McQueen’s right-hand woman Sarah Burton will take over the position as creative director for the brand. Sarah Burton graduated from Cental St Martins 1997 and has been working with McQueen for over 14 years. For 10 years she has been working with the woman’s line and she was the one who put his last fall/winter 10 collection together. The choice to me is right. Who else understands McQueen better? Who else could do the job? Sarah Burton’s comment to the new postition “The creation of modern, beautifully crafted clothes was at the heart of Lee’s vision. I intend to stay true to his legacy.”
Hopefully Lee Alexander McQueen will stay alive in his clothes with Sarah Burton. I am pretty sure he will because of his beautiful aesthetics.

Paris Fashion Week, Lee Alexander McQueen

Posted by Marina Milojkovic Mar, 2010 at 8:23 under Collections

This is the last we will ever see of Lee Alexander McQueen and his designs. There are no words, so I will not even try. One thing is for sure, he left us with MAGIC.
While looking and thinking about the collection I was listening to Beirut-Postcards from Italy, and somewhere there a tear fell down my face..

McQueen will live on

Posted by Marina Milojkovic Feb, 2010 at 11:03 under Designers

Yeasterday morning Francois-Henri Pinault, president of PPR announced that the house of McQueen will live on. No specific details were told and who will take over after Lee. My only hopes are that Olivier Theyskens will be the one who will replace him, I can not see anyone else.
Polet only said: “Lee is of course irreplaceable . . . We believe in the future of the brand. Lee was very proud of the people working in his company, and so am I.”

I miss you Lee Alexander McQueen.

Lee Alexander McQueen

Posted by Marina Milojkovic Feb, 2010 at 9:59 under Designers
I have tried to write about Alexander McQueen’s death since the day after he died. The eleventh of February, I was just in shock and could not find my words. Of all the articles I’ve read so far I was very touched with what Tim Blanks wrote for Style.com. He wrote “it always felt to me like he’d be the last man standing”. This brought me to tears, it goes straight to your heart because you know it is true.
Nobody can create as Alexander McQueen did. He was a genius, and for me he will always live on as a genius. No one will ever get near the skills and understanding he had. Alexander McQueen was not only inovative and fresh thinking, he was a master, an unbeatable, immeasurable master. As you can see, it is difficult to describe in words what McQueen created. His shows were theater and his clothes were art. Dresses in glas and feathers, color combinations that no one could have ever think of.
Now a few days later, we wonder who will take over the house. If the fashion house McQueen will live on because no one can do what he does. The only one who I can really think of is Olivier Theyskens. He is not as good. However, he is as beautiful. Unfortunately, the truth is brutal and McQueen is no longer with us, which probably means that the fashion house will rest in peace as well.
For me it is almost a little beautiful, a fairy tale. Lee McQueen (his real name) took his life only a week after his mother died. To me this proves that there is nothing greater than love. McQueen had all the success he could ever dream of and still that was not enough, he created for his mother and what else is there to do after she died? He died for of his mother and in my world that is beautiful, although it is incredibly sad.
To think about is actually that a genius like Lee McQueen will in fact always live on in our history and in our hearts. He touched us and will continue to keep us alive with his design. His power keeps him alive in our lives and I do hope that he found the peace he was looking for.

Alexander McQueen SS 10

Posted by Marina Milojkovic Jan, 2010 at 1:01 under Campaigns

I have my favorite campaigns this season, like Chloé and Isabel Marant. However, Alexander McQueen is by far the most interesting one. To me, this is art. This will go down with history, for sure. You barely see the shoes or Raquel Zimmermann. The colors are beautiful. Good job Nick Knight.
